KCL Engineering Ranks #3 among Iowa's Top Workplaces for 2026

KCL Engineering has been named the #3 Top Workplace in the Small Employer category by the Des Moines Register for 2026, continuing a strong history with the Iowa Top Workplaces program that includes #1 rankings in 2023 and 2024.

This year, the Des Moines Register also sat down with Principal and Senior Electrical Engineer Nick Johnson and Associate Principal and Director of Marketing Julie Eliason to take a closer look at KCL and what makes it a place people enjoy working.

A big part of that is our culture. We like working together, and we step up to help each other when it matters. Our team has opportunities to grow in different directions, whether that means taking on a new type of project, developing into a leadership role, or even pursuing an opportunity in another KCL office. As we’ve grown, we’ve worked hard to maintain the connections and relationships that have been part of KCL from the beginning.

The Register feature also highlights another part of the KCL experience we’re proud of: seeing our work become part of the communities around us. Nick reflected on assembling a recent portfolio and realizing just how many places our team has impacted throughout Iowa, from schools and community destinations to bridges, parks, and entertainment venues. Getting to point to a building or attraction and say, “We worked on that,” is a pretty great part of the job.

The energized combination of people, opportunity, and meaningful work is a big part of what makes KCL, KCL. Being named a Top Workplace reflects the experience our employees say they have here, but more importantly, it reflects the workplace we create for one another every day.
